About Kendal
Kendal is a market town on the outskirts of the Lake District National Park. It is situated on the River Kent, from which it derives its name. Kendal has a rich history dating back to Roman times, evidenced by the ruins of a Roman fort nearby. However, it truly flourished as a market town during the medieval period, becoming an important center for wool trade.
The town itself is picturesque, with narrow lanes, historic buildings, and the ruins of Kendal Castle overlooking the town. Kendal is also famous for its mint cake, a type of confectionery that has been produced in the area since the 19th century and is popular among hikers and mountaineers due to its high energy content.
