About Ambleside

Ambleside is widely regarded as the outdoor activity capital of England, pulling tourists in from all over the world to conquer the fells which encompass the town. Lying a mile north of England’s largest lake, Windermere, Ambleside is a hub for water sports enthusiasts. Activities such as paddle boarding, kayaking and swimming are all widely available on Waterhead’s beaches.

However, if land activities are more your thing, a wide variety of walks can be completed from this town. Skelwith Force offers a short walk lasting an hour or so, and Scafell Pike, England's highest mountain is situated only a few miles away for the keener adventurer.

During peak season, up to 20,000 cars can pass through the town centre, and even on the quietest days, the visitors can outnumber the locals. Despite its popularity, there is still a village feel to Ambleside, it’s strong community vibe and local events make this town a place to relax and enjoy both its beautiful architecture and picturesque views.
