Please note: On Sunday 15th June, there will be some disruption to the 525 service. Between 08:45-10:45 there will be no service available. The first run from Ash Landing will not take place. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

Mountain Goat operates “The Cross Lakes Experience” daily throughout the summer, from Saturday 24th May 2025 until Sunday 28th September 2025. This service connects Bowness-on-Windermere to Hill Top Farm House and on to Hawkshead.

On arrival at Ash Landing our Mountain Goat bus makes it way up to the hamlet of Far Sawrey, here you can visit Pure Lakes, the handmade, nautural skincare brand.

The 525 will continue on to Near Sawrey, the village where Beatrix Potter called home. Here you can visit Hill Top, wander around the small 17th century farmhouse that inspired some of Beatrix's stories and began her love of farming. The garden, house and shop is well worth a visit for any Beatrix fan.

Please visit the National Trust website for details on prices and opening times.

On selected dates throughout the season, Hill Top Herdwick farm experience offers a glimpse behind the scenes of a working farm. Meet the farmer and discover the farming calander and how the farm played a significant role in Beatrix Potter's life.

The 525 service continues onwards to the picture perfect village of Hawkshead. Exploring the village is a great way to spend an afternoon. Hawkshead's delightful church, St Michael and All Angels is well worth a visit, call in at the Grammar School, dating back to 1585 and where William Wordsworth attended school.  Pop in and get some Grasmere Gingerbread at their shop in the village and with plenty of places to go for lunch you'll find  the cross lakes experience makes for a great day out.

Our 525 service links into other transport services enabling a car-free day.  At Mountain Goat we are very proud of working with our partners to provide sustainable transport in the Lake District.

Tickets can be purchased on the day of travel from Windermere lake Cruises ticket office or from the Mountain Goat bus driver.
