Unfortunately the 525 service has been suspended for 2023, however, we operate a tour that visits Hilltop, Hawkshead, and offers a lake cruise:

Our Beatrix Potter's Favourite Countryside tour departs from Oxenholme, Windermere, Bowness, and Ambleside every afternoon throughout the summer, taking in many places associated with the famous children’s author.  This tour is an ideal opportunity to see the scenery which inspired her and gives a fantastic overview of the Southern Lake District in a short amount of time. You will take a lake cruise, where you can marvel at the beauty of the Lake District from the tranquil waters themselves. If the cruise is cancelled an alternative extra will be included. The tour visits many locations with Beatrix Potter connections including Hill Top Farm, Hawkshead, Wray Castle, Tarn Hows and Lake Windermere. Click here to book or find out more.

Mountain Goat normally operates “The Cross Lakes Experience” daily throughout the summer, from April until late October. This service connects Bowness-on-Windermere to Hill Top Farm House and on to Hawkshead.

From Bowness-on-Windermere travellers can catch the boat from Windermere Lake Cruises, who provide the connecting ferry service from Pier 3, allowing visitors to cross to the western shore of Lake Windermere. On arrival at Ferry House our Mountain Goat bus travels to Hill Top Farm House (the house of Beatrix Potter in the hamlet of Near Sawrey). Please visit the National Trust website for details on prices and opening times.

The 525 service continues onwards to beautiful village of Hawkshead, which dates back to the 14th Century. Exploring Hawkshead is a great way to spend an afternoon. Hawkshead's delightful church, St Michael and All Angels is well worth a visit, as well as Wordsworth’s grammar school and the National Trust's Beatrix Potter Gallery

Our 525 service links into other transport services enableing a car-free day out.  At Mountain Goat we are very proud of working with our partners to provide sustainable transport in the Lake District.  Tickets can be purchased on the day of travel from Windermere lake Cruises ticket office or from the Mountain Goat bus driver.
