Tarn How’s is situated 2 miles from Coniston and 1.5 miles from Hawkshead, outlooked by the Yewdale fells. Tarn How’s is a very popular visitor destination for tourists and locals alike, it’s an easy 1.8-mile circular walk around the now one tarn. Some may not realise that Tarn How’s used to be made up of three smaller tarns called high, middle and low tarn. In 1929 the area came up for sale and was bought by Beatrix Potter, who left it to the National Trust in her will.
