Tour Highlights

Join Mountain Goat for a tour of the Yorkshire Dales most famous areas around Wensleydale and Swaledale. Enjoy views of Aysgarth Waterfalls and quaint villages before a stop at Hawes where you can potter around the shops, enjoy a bit of local food or drink, or head up to the creamery and sample the world-famous Wensleydale cheese.

After a brief refreshment stop in Hawes, we head up over the Buttertubs Pass, famed for its extraordinary views over the dales landscape. We head down Swaledale before heading over the Grinton Moor Road on the way to Bolton Castle. Weather permitting, we may stop to enjoy a sunset over the Dales before heading down to Castle Bolton as darkness falls. Here at the castle you will enjoy a one course medieval themed supper in the great hall (vegetarian option available). After supper you will then join experts from Go Stargazing to take in the wonders of the the night sky.

This tour will start opposite Dean Court Hotel in Duncombe Place next to York Minster, Y01 7EF.

The pick up point is in the heart of city, aproximately 10 minutes walk from York Railway Station.

Restrictions

Passengers must be 5 years old or older to join our tours and must have their own seat. 

Please be punctual as the bus will leave on time. 

Luggage on board

Hand luggage only. Luggage Storage is available at York train station, 2 minute walk. 

Lunch

Lunch is not included, however there will be time in the village of Hawes to purchase something in a local shop or cafe. 

Cancellation Policy

You may cancel 4 weeks proir to departure to receive a full refund. No refund will be given for cancellations made 4 weeks before the date of the event.

 

Join Mountain Goat tours for a unique experience combining the finest Yorkshire Scenery, Historic landmarks and gazing into the night sky. Mountain Goat have joined forces with the wonderful team at Castle Bolton and the renowned stargazing experts at Go Stargazing for a unique tour of the Dales by day and night.

 

Join you expert Mountain Goat guide in York before we set of for a scenic journey deep into the Yorkshire Dales. We will spot historic landmarks such as castles and abbey ruins, enjoy views over the rushing Aysgarth waterfalls as we enjoy the quintessential English countryside of Wensleydale.

 

You will arrive in Hawes, the unofficial capital of the Dales for a short break for refreshments at the Wensleydale Creamery. Choose between a selection of hot and cold beverages, delicious cakes and snacks, browse the local products in the wonderful gift shop and don’t forget to sample the many varieties of tasty cheese.

 

We will depart Hawes in time for another stunning drive, this time over the famous Buttertubs Pass, described as England’s Finest driving road. The views over Wensleydale and Swaledale and worth the trip alone.

 

As we get close to the sunset we make one more pass from Swaledale, over the windswept Grinton Moors where if the conditions are right we hope to stop to see the sun setting over the Glorious Dales Landscape.

 

Once the Sun has set, we will arrive at Bolton Castle where guests will be welcomed to the stunning 14th Century home of the “Le Scrope” family in time for a warm welcome and declious hot supper.  Where they will enjoy a medieval inspired one course hot meal of Wild Boar Stew (vegetarian option available) and a drink. The room will be atmospheric with candles and either a log burner or open fire.

 

After supper at approx 7.30pm everyone will be invited to move to the Chapel where we will me our experts from Go Stargazing, The Yorkshire Dales is one of only 21 internationally recognised dark sky reserves which means the it is one of the best places to spot the marvels of the night sky such as planets, the moon, stars are even other galaxies. The team at Go Stargazing are considered eminent Stargazers in the UK and they will be able to point anything worth viewing and answer any questions you have about our night skies.

 

The evening finishes at approx 9pm where will return back to York.
