Leaving York we make our way to North Yorkshire to Finghall railway station which is on the Wensleydale Hertiage Railway line and was used in the 1970s & 80s television series All Creatures Great & Small for Darrowby Station.

From here you will continue onto Leyburn on the outskirts of the Yorkshire Dales, a traditional Yorkshire market town. You will stop here for a morning break, time to get a coffee or visit the film location such as Thornborough Hall or the railway station. After a short break you will travel to Castle Bolton through Wensley and past the Holy Trinity Church, which was used for the wedding of James & Helen as well as past Redmire Village, the location of Darrowby Bus Stop.

Bolton Castle is a 14th century castle, where Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned and was used for the location where James proposed to Helen. After a short stop at Bolton Castle you will travel to Askrigg.

Askrigg is a small village in the Yorkshire Dales used as a location in All Creatures Great & Small as Skeldale House. The recognisable, stone-built Wensleydale house became known to viewers as the location for the veterinary practice in which character James Herriot worked. Askrigg is also home to the Kings Arms, which was used as the Drovers’ Arms in the series.

Next stop on the Herriot pilgrimage is Hawes, used as the location for Darrowby Cattle Market. Hawes is also famous for Wensleydale Creamery, the only marker of Yorkshire Wensleydale cheese. You will stop for lunch here, with time to explore the village or try the cheese in the creamery.

From Hawes you will travel through the Yorkshire country roads to Hardaw church, used as Darrowby Church as well as Simonstone Hall Hotel used as Darrowby Country Club in All Creatures Great & Small.

From Hardraw, you will travel to Reeth via Buttertubs, Thwaite, Low Row and Arkengarthdale, taking in the water splash and Langthwaite Bridge used in opening sequence of All Creatures Great & Small. You will travel to Grinton and see the church that featured in the episode called “Brotherly Love” and pass by Ellerton Abbey, the fictional home of Mrs Pomfrey.

You will be dropped back at your start point in York between 17:00 – 17:30 after a fun filled day visiting most of the All Creatures Great & Small and James Herriot locations.
