Leaving York we make our way to the charming town of Pickering, known as the ‘Gateway to the Moors’ and the southern terminus of the North York Moors Railway. There will be a chance to explore the station and see this picturesque market town. You can enjoy a hot brew and home made pastries, discover the historic Church and its medieval wall painting and explore the beautiful town.

We then head off the ‘Beaten Track’ into the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, there will be plenty of chances throughout your day to capture memorable photos.

After travelling over our first taste of the moorland we arrive in Goathland, a classic moorland village famed as the setting for the 60’s themed police drama Heartbeat. You will also have opportunity to see Goathland Station, which was turned into ‘Hogsmeade’ for Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. The shop on the platform was transformed into the “Prefect’s Room” and the Ladies toilets became the “Wizard’s Room”.

We arrive in Whitby for lunch, a traditional seaside town, where there is a wide choice of places to eat – with fish and chips being the local favourite. There are a number of things to see and do such as visiting the dramatic ruins of Whitby Abbey, which was the inspiration for the novel ‘ Dracula’ or even taking a stroll along the harbour with its quaint shops.

We drive through more classic moorland landscape as we make our way through Egton and Egton Bridge, and then down the famous 33% Gradient on Limber Hill. Our journey takes us onto Glaisdale, this peaceful village is home to Beggers Bridge, a 17th century bridge with a romantic story behind it.

We get onto the heart of the Moors in the afternoon. On leaving Glaisdale we head to the high Moors, to enjoy uninterrupted panoramic views for miles, stopping at the famous landmark of Ralph’s Cross.

As we make our way out of the National Park we stop at the market town of Helmsley, you will have time to explore bustling market square, the dramatic castle ruins, the charming tea rooms or the inviting inns. If you were asked to imagine the perfect English market town, then it'd probably look a lot like Helmsley.

Leaving Helmsley we start making our way back towards York whilst enjoying the views over the Vale of York. Sit back and enjoy more scenic Yorkshire countryside as your memorable tour draws to a close.
