Group Sales & Marketing Manager, Asia Connor visits Washington DC & New York to promote the Lake District to international travelers from North America.
North England and the Lake District is a hot destination for millions of international travellers from all over the world, many visit London and Edinburgh but only a small percentage of travellers leave the capital cities of England and Scotland.
Over 60 travel trade and industry suppliers from across Britain attended VisitBritain’s Destination Britain North America which returns in person for the first time since 2018.
Together with a strong force of 12 Lake District based tourism businesses Mountain Goat's Group Sales & Marketing Manager headed stateside to visit Washington DC with VisitBritain, to promote the Lake District and Northern England and its tourism sector to travel trade and agents from aross North America.
The strong contingent of businesses from the Lake District including our county’s official Destination Management Organisation (DMO), Cumbria Tourism along with attractions Mountain Goat, Honister Slate Mine, Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway, Muncaster Castle & Gardens, The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction, Windermere Lake Cruises and Wordsworth Grasmere and accommodation providers Classic Lodges Hotels, English Lakes Hotels, Lake District Country Hotels and Langdale Leisure.
According to VisitBritain, in 2019, there were 4.5 million visits from the US with those visitors spending £4.18 billion. From Canada, there were 874,000 visits to the UK (the second highest on record) with Canadian visitors spending a record £724.36 million.
Asia Connor, Group Sales & Marketing Manager from Mountain Goat, said: “It was important that we attended Destination Britain North America this year to reconnect and meet with travel trade partners post covid. This event is a fantastic way to meet travel specialist from across North America to promote our region and engage in why their clients should visit us.”
A small group of businesses including Mountain Goat, Cumbria Tourism, Windermere Lake Cruises, Langdale Leisure and Lake District County Hotels then travelled to New York for office visits to further strength key relationships and meet with new agents.
