What’s On at Muncaster Castle!

Our High Adventure Tour takes you over to the Western Lakes, travelling over famous Mountain passes; Hardknott and Wrynose, which are some of the steepest in Great Britain. One of the highlights of the tour is the visit to Muncaster Castle.

Muncaster Castle is a Grade 1 listed building and has been the home to the Pennington family since the 13th century; it is situated towards the west end of Muncaster Fell overlooking Eskdale. The oldest parts of the Castle include the Great Hall and Peel Tower. The grounds are extensive with a rhododendron collection of many colours. If you time your visit well, you will be able to enjoy their spectacular birds of prey show. Food & Drink Festival
4th – 6th May.

This three-day celebration celebrates good food, drink and all things Cumbrian over the Bank Holiday weekend. From celebrity Chef’s, cooking demos, entertainment for all ages and of course the food!! There will be lots of stalls to sample and buy specialist and gourmet food and drink from Cumbrian and Northern Britain suppliers. You can also find craft and giftware to complete your retail experience. One of our favourites from last year was the Festival Sausage Marquee, they had a range of artisan sausages from the best of our region's suppliers.

Festival of Fools
26th – 28th May.

Festival of the Fools is a fantastic event with something for the whole family. The festival incorporates with the International Jesters Tournament, where a new Fool of Muncaster 2019 will be appointed. There’s a variety of entertainment from slapstick artists, jugglers, comedians to magicians, time our High Adventure right and you could enjoy all of this!
 

August 2019

Medieval Muncaster
24th – 26th August.

Over the bank holiday weekend, Muncaster Castle returns to the 15th century with the Red Wyvern re-enactment society. Medieval Muncaster brings the past to life with enthusiastic and knowledgeable re-enacters from the time of the Wars of Roses.
