Marketing manager, Liz Chegwin, visits Mumbai and Delhi to promote the Lake District to international travellers from India
The United Kingdom is a hot destination for millions of international travellers from all over the world, many visit London and Edinburgh but only a small percentage of travellers leave the capital cities of England and Scotland.
Together with a strong force of 13 Lake District based tourism businesses Mountain Goat's marketing manager flew to India to visit Mumbai and Delhi with VisitBritain, to promote the Lake District and its tourism sector to travel agents from the Asian continent.
According to VisitBritain Mumbai and Delhi are the two largest source cities for UK tourism in India, accounting for 40% of the 500,000+ tourists who visit the UK each year. These visitors spend a staggering £500million throughout the year, directly into the UK's tourism economy.
Liz Chegwin, marketing manager from Mountain Goat, said: "The India sales mission was a fantastic way to meet travel and tourism specialists in India, it was a great opportunity to promote the incredible national park we live in and the attractions which are based there.
"As a small group, family friendly activity Mountain Goat can cater for Indian travellers, who often travel in groups or with family, perfectly.
"It was great to hear the positive feedback from the various agents we met and hopefully this visit will have paved the way to encourage international travellers from India to explore more than London and Edinburgh."
Tour operators in India are increasingly organising holidays and trips to the UK's major cities for a range of Indian clients, it is hoped that the VisitBritain sales mission will promote the Lake District and make it even more of a desirable destination for those visiting from overseas.
With Mountain Goat's recent increase in tours from North West cities and the creation of the Rail & Road tours it is now easier than ever for tourists to tour this incredible national park.
