The Lake District is one of the most stunning places in the UK, from spectacular panoramic views from the hilltops to mountain tarns and magnificent lakes it is no wonder 15 million people come to explore the region’s fells and countryside each year! Here are some fascinating facts about the Lake District:

1.    The Largest Lake in England
The Lake District is home to the longest lake in England, Lake Windermere. Stretching over 11 miles long and surrounded by mountain peaks and villages, it is no wonder Lake Windermere is one of the most popular places to visit in the country. 2.     The Deepest Lake in England
Not only is the Lake District National Park home to the longest lake in England, but it is also home to the deepest lake in England, Wastwater. Wastwater can be found in the Wasdale Valley, it is 3 miles long, half a mile wide and 260 feet deep! Wastwater certainly has the WOW factor due to being surrounded by mountains such as Red Pike, Kirk Fell, Great Gable and Scafell Pike. 3.    The Highest Mountain in England
As you can see we are building a pretty spectacular picture of the Lake District, from the longest to the deepest Lake in the country to now the highest Mountain, it is clear to see why so many people love this National Park. Scafell Pike stands at an impressive 978 metres above sea level and it can be seen from our High Adventure Tour! 4.    The Steepest Passes in England  
To top it all off, we are also home to one of the steepest passes in England, The Wrynose Pass! This mountain pass goes between the Duddon Valley and Little Langdale and is well known for being one of the most challenging roads in Britain. 5.    World Heritage Status
As of July 2017 The Lake District National Park holds the title UNESCO World Heritage Site. We are the only National Park in the UK to hold such status and we have know joined iconic locations such as the Taj Mahal, The Great Barrier Reef and The Grand Canyon. The key themes which influenced the decision to grant World Heritage were dramatic farmed landscapes, inspiration – art and literature and love of the place.
