After qualifying as a teacher (art) I took a job with British Antarctic Survey. 2 ½ years there followed by 6 months fooling around South America knocked the teaching nonsense out of me. I came to Langdale for a weekend’s climbing in 1973 and stayed: 17 years as a National Trust Warden and 20 years as a wood carver and sculptor. Now in my 8th year with Mountain Goat I hope I can entertain and inform the people who come with us and pass on a little of my enthusiasm for the lumpy bits of Northern England.
