I have lived in the Lake District all my life and love calling it my home. I enjoy recommending and organising itineraries for domestic and international visitors to the area and showing them areas they may not have otherwise visited. I love how diverse and fast paced my role is at Mountain Goat and everyday is different. Cumbria is steeped in history, beautiful natural landscape and we are blessed with not one but two UNESCO World Heritage Sites on our doorstep.

When I'm not working I love getting out onto the fells and walking with my family & partner, if the weather allows or heading overseas to explore other parts of the world.

Driver Guide

I enjoy meeting and chatting to people from all over the World. I regard it as a personal challenge to try to engage with every guest by finding out where they are from and what they are particularly interested in so that they get the most out of their day with Mountain Goat. I really enjoy sharing my “office”, the Lake District National Park, particularly the “out of the way places”; with everyone. It is the best office anyone could possibly have; whatever the season or weather! I am glad people like my humour!

Duncan was born on the outskirts of the great northern industrial city of Manchester towards the end of its industrial heritage. Part of a family that grew up in the industrial revolution of the Lancashire cotton mills he would sit for hours listening to his great grandparents and aunts talk about the harsh life and conditions of industrial England. This is where his love of history developed. Whilst still a young boy the family moved to the fringes of the English Lake District, which he considers ‘home’. After a time serving in the Royal Air Force he developed a love for world travel, visiting many places around the globe.

“I consider myself to have been lucky in life, being able to travel and meet people from different countries and rich cultures but nothing compares to the joy of travelling the Lake District and sharing it with the people I meet.”

Gerry was born and bred in the Lake District. His past career has been quite varied, after leaving school having a number of jobs, at the age of 28 joined the Ambulance Service as an Ambulance man, through promotion, rising to the rank of Director of operations in the Hampshire Ambulance Service. "On retirement it had always been my intention to return to the Lake District. Fortunately I joined Mountain Goat Tours as a Driver Guide some 15 years ago. This has given me the opportunity meet a wide range of people, from many cultures and countries throughout the world.
Being in a position to show them the beautiful countryside, talk about the many famous inhabitants, Beatrix Potter, William Wordsworth, Coleridge and many others, always gives me a feeling of pride in the past history of the area.
Showing clients the beauty of the Countryside, the mountains and Valleys, trodden in the past by Romans and Vikings. Written about by many, the Famous wainwright guide books. Mountain Goat Tours ensures that we are able to show travellers places of beauty off the beaten track.
It gives me great pride to be able to give pleasure, through Mountain Goat Tours to so many people from many diverse areas through the world."

Geoff has worked for Mountain Goat Tours for 5 years, after a huge transition from motor industry to tourism however always customer related.

"I moved up to Cumbria 21 years ago from the south and never looked back. I became a member of Kirkby Stephen mountain rescue team in 2008 and remained a member for 9 years. I also worked in the Middle East for 3 years in a number of countries, so have seen the world. However, nothing gives me greater happiness than working as a tour driver for Mountain Goat Tours and sharing our beautiful landscape with our national and international visitors or being out walking those high peaks of the Lake District."
