Scarborough
This hotel is set in a spectacular position on the cliff top on the south side of Scarborough overlooking the North Sea. It is a very comfortable hotel and has excellent food. We have used this hotel for many years.
Lake District
We will meet you at York Rail Station, or the National Express Coach stop, between 2.00pm
and 4.00pm and then transfer you to Scarborough. Before dinner we will have a drinks party so that you can meet your fellow guests.
Thursday
Today we are going to explore the middle of the Moors. After leaving Scarborough, we head to Grosmont, the northern terminus of The North Yorks Railway, and on to Egton Bridge and Lealholm via the rather steep Limber Hill. After a coffee stop, we cross the Moors with fantastic views down into Fryup Dale, via Hamer House and then to Rosedale Abbey for lunch. In the afternoon we cross the moors to Lastingham and have a look at its beautiful church with its 1000 year old crypt. From here we go to the Quaker village of Hutton le Hole for a tea stop before making our way back back to Scarborough.
Friday
Our first stop today is at Robin Hood’s Bay. Ample time to explore the fascinating fishing port with its little alleys and ginnells. From here we head north and drive right up to Whitby Abbey with its spectacular views both out to sea and inland. We drive into town for lunch and spend the afternoon here. You may like to take an optional 1 hour cruise into the North Sea, well worthwhile. Later in the afternoon we have a relaxing drive over the Moors to Scarborough.
Saturday
Today we explore the north of the Yorkshire Moors. Leaving Scarborough we head to Great Ayton and Stokesley, two market towns, before going on to Mount Grace Priory at the foot of the moors. Our journey continues to Commondale and then on to Danby to visit the new Moors Heritage Centre. Our drive back to Scarborough is over the moors.
Sunday
A day of rest with time to explore Scarborough. It is easy to walk down to the town from the hotel but we will arrange to taxi you back up should you wish.
Monday
Today we take you on the Dalby Forest Drive through the North Riding Forest Park; 12 miles through the centre of the forest. We go on to Pickering for lunch and then in the afternoon travel on the steam railway to Goathland, Heartbeat Country, where we have plenty of time to explore this Moors village before making our way back to Scarborough.
Tuesday
We take the road across Fylingdales Moor to the very pretty village of Thornton le Dale for morning coffee and then on to the market town of Helmsley. This will be our lunch stop and in the afternoon we drive the short distance to Rievaulx Abbey set in the valley of the River Rye. On the way back we visit the Yorkshire Lavender farm
