The Cross Lakes Experience (525)

Bus: Mountain Goat operates “The Cross Lakes Experience” daily throughout the summer from Bowness-on-Windermere. A connecting ferry service allows visitors to cross to the western shore of Windermere to join the mini coach service and travel onward to visit Hill Top (the house of Beatrix Potter in the hamlet of Near Sawrey), the beautiful village of Hawkshead with its delightful church, Wordsworth’s Grammar School and the Beatrix Potter Gallery. Onward connections are available to Coniston Water where one can enjoy a cruise and visit Brantwood, John Ruskin’s home and to Grizedale Forest for the high-level fun of Go Ape, mountain biking and the new visitor centre.

Bike: The bus will take you and your bike up the big hill to High Cross, leaving you to coast downhill all day.  We have bike racks on all our Cross-Lakes shuttles.

Boats: Start your day at Bowness Pier 3 with a gentle ride on one of the Cross-Lakes Shuttle's traditional wooden launches - the scenery is breathtaking!  There's a huge choice of places to go on a visit, including John Ruskin's Brantwood, Grizedale Visitor Centre, Tarn Hows, Beatrix Potter's home, Hill Top and the picturesque village of Hawkshead.

Boots: If you want to go walking, with The Cross-Lakes Shuttle you don't have to stick to a circular routes.  Take the Shuttle and stroll over Claife Heights for magnificent views of Windermere or take the Windermere Shore Path to Wray Castle.
