For our first day we leave the hotel at 10am and head for Morewhelan Quay, where we have a fascinating insight into the trading that used to take place on the River Tamar in the 19th Century when the tin mining was at its zenith. From here we drive to Kitt Hill, an iron age burial mound where there are outstanding views to the surrounding area. On now to Cotehala, a magnificend medieval manor house with a fantastic walled garden. Here we have a long stop to be able to explore this National Trust property. In the afternoon we drive through the Devon countryside, crossing the Saltash Bridge as we head back to Tavistock.
Friday
Leaving the hotel after breakfast we drive to Yelverton and then onto The Garden House, where there is a superb walled garden, redesigned in the 1040's by Lionel and Katherine Fortescue and now looked after by their successor, Keith Wiley. After a good look round the garden and having had coffee, we head onto Buckland Abbey, Francis rake's home. This will be our lunch stop and in the afternoon we will drive onto the edge of Dartmoor to Burrator lake before heading back to Tavistock.
Saturday
Today we head over Dartmoor to Princetown Visitor Centre, well worth a visit for coffee and then on to Postbridge. We take a shortwalk to see the magnificent old bridge. Our lunch stop will be at the picture postcard village of Moretonhampstead. In the afternoon we take the small road to Widecombe and Dartmeet for a cream tea. On the way back to Tavistock we stop at "The Quirky Pixie Place At The Top Of The Hill"!

This is your free day to relax and enjoy the environs of Tavistock. In the evening we meet for an aperitif, courtesy of the Goat

Today is to the south coast and to the fishing port of Looe where we stay for an hour or so. After lunch we journey along the coast through the villages of Downderry, Portwinkle, Freathy, Cawsand and Kingsand. We cross the River Tamar on the ferry, drive through Plymouth and head back to Tavistock.

Our last day's touring takes us to the north coast to Bude and then on to Boscastle and Tintagel. There are lots of stops as we explore this dramatic and spectacular coastline. Our return journey is via Bodmin Moor of Jamaica Inn fame.
