Kirkcudbright
The Selkirk Arms Hotel is very comfortable, with excellent food and most friendly staff. It is a five minute walk from the town centre.
We meet you at Carlisle railway station and have a scenic drive of just over an hour to our hotel in Kirkcudbright.
Thursday
A shorter journey but leading to a grand climax. In the morning we tour Kirkcudbright and Brighouse Bays and travel on to Dundrennan Abbey and Orchardton Tower. Our lunch stop is at the famous gardens of Threrave. In the afternoon we visit Castle Douglas and Balcary Bay.
Friday
Today we visit the county town of Dumfries and we go by the Motte of Urr and the old town of Dalbeattie. We also visit the coastal villages of Rockcliffe, Kippford and New Abbey, pass the prominent hill of Criffel on the way to Dumfries. The afternoon takes in the sculptures of Glen Kiln and a visit to Sweetheart Abbey.
Saturday
Today we take the coastal route to Newton Stewart, passing the old castle of Carsluith on the way to the remote Machairs region. We visit Wigton, and explore the Christian heritage of the region and then go on to the Isle of Whithorn, site of St. Ninians chapel. In the afternoon we make our way to the Glenwhan gardens.
Sunday
A day of forests and moorland. We go through New Galloway, passing Loch Ken and Clatterinshaws Loch and visiting Bruce’s stone on the way to Glen Trool where we can see the Merrick, the areas highest mountain. In the afternoon we visit Gatehouse of Fleet.
Monday
Unfortunately, time to go home. After breakfast, we drive to Carlisle to catch your train home. Commencing 1st June. Price £545. Double/twin for single occupancy at £15.00 per night. This is a 5 night holiday on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis with a full touring itinerary on the four days.
